Dear H.E. Jae in Moon, President of the Republic of Korea
I am Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh Ji, Jathedar of Akal Takht. Last year, I visited South Korea to participate in a peace conference held by HWPL. I felt that Korea and its people are very sincere, exemplify brotherhood between one another, and truly desire the realization of peace. Therefore, I believe that the leaders of this nation, as well as its government officials, are earnest and desire peace based on justice and equality.
However, recently, I have heard in the news about the religious minority in Korea, Shincheonji church, which is being persecuted to forcefully close down. They are being blamed for being the center of the country’s biggest outbreak of corona virus and are being persecuted even after their donations of 83 billion dollars worth of blood plasma for vaccine research and development.
A virus does not see any religion, color, caste, creed, language, or border. We are all victims of it and any authority cannot blame or accuse any minority of being a main culprit for the fast spread of COVID-19. Freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental human right to be protected. I wholeheartedly say, the virus cannot be an excuse to violate the human rights and religious liberty of hundreds of thousands of believers.
Intolerance, violence, and discrimination against Shincheonji should be put to an end. The oppression of SCJ church should be stopped immediately and HWPL’s peace work should be continue in efforts to achieve world peace without any discrimination.
With the Highest Regards,
Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh Ji, Jathedar of Akal Takht
